Flutist, Piccoloist, Teacher, Artist, Performer, Trainer and Soldier
"Music is life to me. I consider myself so very blessed to be able to communicate the deepest parts of life that cannot be expressed with words. Sharing the soul through music, teaching others how to express that which cannot be said, connecting lives through music, that is who I am and what I do. Beyond this, teaching others how to care for their primary instrument; their bodies, to move freely, to live full, healthy lives free from pain, this is my greatest joy." - Angela
Presenting at National Flute Association Convention! I have great news! I have
been asked to give my presentation "Lift, Play, Love: Basic
Weightlifting for Efficient Flute Playing" at the NFA Convention in
Charlotte, NC in August 2011. Beyond this, I have also been
asked to be a part of an expert panel to include Lea Pearson (body
mapping), Karen Lonsdale (instrument modification) and Dr. Susan
Fain (physical therapy) giving a presentation on pain management and
prevention. I am looking forward to meeting so many of you!
If you have any questions you would like addressed, feel free to
email me or hit the contact button above and we can put your
question into our presentations! Still wondering what the NFA has to offer?
Newsletter! Would you like to be kept up to date on where I will be performing and teaching? I put out a monthly email newsletter letting you know where you can find me and also what is going on in the musical community of Panama City, FL and the surrounding areas. In each newsletter I also include playing and pedagogical tips and also include a section about physical fitness and health.
Personal Training for Musicians Are you in pain when you play? Were you previously able to play your instrument for long periods of time with little discomfort but now find yourself hurting after a brief time? As a musician passionate about fitness, it amazes me how few musicians take the time to understand and take care of their bodies the way they take care of their instruments. As a NASM certified personal trainer, let me help you develop a program to strengthen your tight, weak and/or stretched muscles, so you can play without pain, for longer periods of time and have a healthier, overall life! Contact me about designing a workout program for you or coming to give a lecture/workshop for your group. We'll discuss anatomy as it relates to flute playing, and discover just what happens when we overuse some muscles and neglect others. We'll cover recovery techniques, self-awareness techniques, mobility exercises, rehab, proper form, dynamic and static stretching and most importantly, get you and your group excited about getting into the weight room instead of being afraid of it! The weight room is less dangerous than driving a car - you just have to know what you are doing. Remember, you are only as strong as your weakest link!
